Biography
Vicky believes that a watercolor painting should be vibrant and lively with color and yet remain true to the transparent nature of the medium. She also thinks that there is a place for opacity in watercolor painting that allows the artist to compare and contrast within a single work. These simple philosophies are the foundation of her art, where she hopes to translate her love of the visual beauty in the world around us to those who see her work. Always looking at the world with new eyes, learning to "see" what others may miss, staying true to one's self, and painting from the heart are values she hopes to carry with her throughout this lifetime journey of learning and creating art.
Vicky enjoys painting in a wide variety of subject matter dealing with light effects, historical significance, and nature, concentrating on conveying the details of their beauty. Strong emphasis is placed on the drawing that will eventually become a painting. Long hours are spent working out and recording details before the drawing is transferred to the painting surface. Her watercolor paintings are developed using multiple glazes to achieve high contrasts, light effects, and depth.
Although not formally trained as an artist, she has had the opportunity to work with a number of excellent artists in the community who have had great influence on her work. Art has been an interest throughout her life and in recent years has become a passion and source of relaxation. Because of the demands of a professional career, she is not able to pursue her art on a fulltime basis, but devotes as much of her free time as possible to learning and growing in this wonderfully fulfilling pastime.
Vicky extends special thanks to her husband, who has shown endless support throughout this journey and is without a doubt her biggest fan.
