Landscapes and Portraits Watercolors, Oils, and Acrylics Commissions Welcome Phone 301-473-7866 Biography: Joy started studying art at an early age. Born in New Orleans, a city of artists, Joy showed an interest in art at the age of 10 by signing up, on her own, for art classes at the Delgado Museum (now the New Orleans Museum of Art). She rode her bike down Esplanade Avenue to go to her classes. As a teen. Joy explored emotional painting by painting to classic music. Her parents had her paint a realistic mural on their wall. At the University of New Orleans Joy studied Art History and drawing. However, marriage put a temporary halt to her educational pursuits. With an incomplete degree she accompanied her husband to Notre Dame University for his PhD's studies. When they found themselves in College Park, MD for a few years Joy returned to college and completed a degree in fine art at the University of Maryland. There she devoted most of her time to printmaking (etching, lithography). She was enamored with the process. Upon graduation, without the proper equipment to work in printmaking Joy began using a different medium. She began working with watercolors for the first time. She also worked as a scientific illustrator and free lance graphic artist for a while. With two children to put through college Joy began a Real Estate business which continued for 8 years. Joy decided to become a full time artist in 1995 and took watercolor classes at Frederick Community College from some notable Frederick, Maryland artists, namely, Elizabeth Prongess, Andrea Burchette and Eloise Bralove. She is presently studying portraits in oils with Mary Pfister. Joy Boudreaux, believes good art requires a lot of mental processing prior to and during the physical process of painting. She is beginning to explore impressionistic techniques. Joy also makes her own paper for her creative colleges which incorporate objects from nature. Her watercolors of nature and seascapes are especially popular. She also has had several commissioned portraits.
