Biography

Darlene Jarkowski Jones was born in Baltimore Maryland and grew up in the suburb called Brooklyn Park.  She graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a B.F.A. in Art Teacher Education.  She taught Art at Martin Spalding High School ( her alma mater) for several years.  Working with her former high school art teacher Fitz was a wonderful learning experience.   Together they established the school's first ceramics course.  Darlene also taught drawing and painting as an Adjunct Faculty member of Catonsville Community College.

At age seventeen, Darlene exhibited in her first art show at Havre de Grace, Maryland.  She never would have dreamed that two decades later, her painting entitled "A Spring Welcome",  would be chosen and published as a poster to commemorate the Havre de Grace Art Festival.

Although talented in many forms of art, oil painting gives Darlene the most enjoyment.  Her favorite pastimes are reflected in her paintings; long rides in the country side, gardening, and vacationing at the beach.  The beautiful and interesting places she visits are the scenes she paints for everyone to enjoy too.  Her realistic style, strong use of color and the ability to capture the sunlight makes her serene paintings unique.

Her most recent work has been inspired by the beautiful gardens of old Baltimore neighborhoods and scenes of rural Carroll County Maryland.  Darlene has included her son, Gregory, in several of her paintings, but confesses that it's hard to let go of those cherished works of art.  Her husband, Bill, has been tremendously supportive of her.  He gives her words of encouragement and always helps her at shows.

Over the years, she has won many ribbons and awards at the outdoor festivals.  She is an active member of the Carroll County Artists Guild and the Catonsville Artists Guild.  Darlene did her first solo art show at the old Towson Courthouse.  Several of Darlene's oil paintings are available in limited in edition prints.  The printing is supervised by her and only the highest quality paper is used.  Each print is signed and numbered.  They are available at many fine galleries, or you may contact Darlene at her Studio
